Lord, a friend in need has come to us. But you way, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8) Our Moore Square friends have come to us. They have little food, clothing—in many cases no shelter. We believe your Spirit is speaking to us as in the same way you spoke to your disciples: “You give them something to eat.” (Mark 6:37)

A Friend in Need
Lord, you say:
“Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’
“And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’
“I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.”
Shameless Audacity
Lord, this is us asking with shameless audacity that you give us as much as we need to feed our friends.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
.83 Cents A Day Delivers the Abundant Life Jesus Promised
Lord, this is us asking, seeking, knocking on doors. We ask that you provide individuals who will give .83 cents each day in order that our friends at Moore Square might enjoy the abundant life you promised.
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?”
Lord, you give good gifts to those who ask. For only .83 cents per day we can give sandwiches, chips, water, used clothing, refurbished bikes, rolling luggage . . .
“Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?”
Lord, you give the best last. For only .83 cents per day we can give new sneakers, boots, underwear, pants, shirts, raincoats . . . all the things necessary to live and work as someone who is seen by you, loved by you, called by you.
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:5-13)
Lord, thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit. Through your Spirit and by your compassion we ask now that you send to us those who wish to deliver the abundant life to our neighbors at Moore Square.
Amen and amen.
Give More Out of Life FOR Jesus Moore Square Raleigh
Each Sonday from noon until 1:00 PM we hand out sandwiches, water, chips, and used clothing. We also pray with those in need for provision, employment, and shelter. When we ask, “How can we pray for you?” we also ask what they need. Those who give us items of need we buy new if possible and used when available and in good condition.
