Eyes to Hear

When Jesus Whispers

Jesus perceives messages through what He sees.

  1. The Fig Tree (Matthew 21:18–22; Mark 11:12–14, 20–21)

Jesus sees leaves on the fig tree, which speaks to Him of fruitfulness.
Though the tree has no voice, its appearance declares hypocrisy—outward show, no inward fruit.
➜ His eyes heard the message of deception, and He answered the tree’s “words” with a curse.

  2. The Widow’s Offering (Mark 12:41–44; Luke 21:1–4)

Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts in.
He heard faith through what He saw.
The clink of two copper coins was less to His ears than the vision of her heart’s devotion.

  3. The Pharisees’ Faces (Mark 3:1–5)

In the synagogue, Jesus looked around at them in anger and was grieved at their hardness of heart.
Their faces and postures spoke volumes. He heard their unbelief through what He saw.

  4. The Paralytic’s Friends (Mark 2:3–5)

    Jesus saw their faith.
Faith has no sound—but His eyes heard it.
What others saw as destruction of a roof, Jesus heard as a cry for mercy.

  5. The Rich Young Ruler (Mark 10:17–22)

Jesus looked at him and loved him, then said, “One thing you lack.”
He heard the man’s heart through the look in his eyes.

Ears to See

When Jesus Whispers

Jesus hears truth and it shows Him pictures or insight.

  1. The Centurion’s Words (Matthew 8:5–13)

“Only say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
Jesus heard faith—and it painted a picture of authority so vivid He declared, “I have not found such great faith in Israel.”
➜ His ears saw the kingdom at work in a Gentile soldier.

  2. Peter’s Confession (Matthew 16:16–19)

    “You are the Christ.”
When Jesus heard Peter’s words, He saw the revelation of the Father unfolding — “flesh and blood did not reveal this to you.”
    ➜ Sound produced sight.

  3. The Cry of Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46–52)

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Others heard noise. Jesus heard sight.
He saw a man’s faith through his cry and restored his physical vision.

  4. The Ten Lepers’ Plea (Luke 17:12–14)

“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
He heard their cry and saw them cleansed before it happened — “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”

  5. The Woman Who Touched His Garment (Mark 5:25–34)

She didn’t speak. Yet Jesus heard power leave Him and saw her faith before she confessed.
➜ His ears saw what no one else could see.
