1 Samuel 4

To God be the GloryEli’s heart feared for the ark of God. 1 Samuel 4:13

When Eli heard “the ark of God had been captured” he fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died. Eli was an old man and heavy. 1 Samuel 4:18

She named the boy Ichabod, because”the glory of the Lord has departed from Israel.” 1 Samuel 4:21

Lord, may your glory never part from my life. When I am old please draw my heart towards you.

1 Samuel 3

God callingIn those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions. 1 Samuel 3:1

The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to Samuel. 1 Samuel 3:7

“Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10

The Lord continued to appear. There he revealed himself through his word. 1 Samuel 3:21

Lord, in the past your Word was rare, yet you revealed yourself to those who listened for your voice. Lord, today I ask that you appear and reveal yourself to me through your word. Help me to hear your voice calling to me through your Holy Spirit.

1 Samuel 2

1 Samuel 2Eli’s sons were wicked men. They had no regard for the Lord. 1 Samuel 2

Eli’s sons slept with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 1 Samuel 2:22

“Why do you honor your sons more than me?”– God 1 Samuel 2:29

“Those who honor me, I will honor. Those who despise me will be disdained.” 1 Samuel 2:30

Lord, please help my boys be good men: men that honor you. May I also honor you in all that I do.

Each year Samuel’s mother made him a little robe and took it to him. 1 Samuel 2:19
