Finding Jesus — 1 Peter 2:12-24

Be Like the Son & Suffer fer Doing Good

Fer the Lord’s sake submit yourselves to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority or to governors.

Fer Skipper’s sake and honor submit ter ever authority instituted by folks. It be Skip’s desire that by doing good ya ‘ill hush the ignorant talk of foolish fellers. At all times, regardless of yer circumstances, show proper respect ter ever feller and lass.

It be a right noble thing if a feller bears up under the pain of suffering fer doing good. Such endurance brings honor ter Skip. If ya suffer fer doing good, endure it without carping and grumbling. Do this and Skipper ‘ill make note of it, ya may lay ter that. Such perseverance be the mark of hearty crew.

Ne’er ferget that fer our sake the Son suffered a good deal more’n we ever will.

The Son ne’er lied nor deceived a feller. He ne’er committed a sin.

When they hurled insults at him, he refused ter strike back. When he suffered beatings, the lash, thorns pressed inter his scalp, he made nary a threat. Instead, the Son consigned himself ter the One who judges justly.

The Son bore our sins in his body while nailed ter a mast. He done this so that we might die ter our sins: die and live righteous lives.

By the wounds and whelps of the Son we have been healed. The infectious sin that corrupted our soul be cured.

Oh, ter be sure, the healing process ‘ill take a while—most near our whole lifetime. But healed ya be. Only, doth not go off looking ter get sick again. Stay away from all schemes that ‘ill bring afflictions ter yer soul. Now that ya be in good health, work ter remain upright.

The Son went ter a great deal of trouble on yer account. Make his efforts count.

By showing the character of the Son ter others while undergoing trials of all sorts we be proving true the words of the Son when he said, “My Father will give you an advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (John 14:16) The Apostle Paul boasted of the same: “We are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.” Romans 8:9

Buck up, mates. If ya ‘ave the Holy Ghost of Truth in ya, then when ya go through affliction, persecution, the lash, or simply ‘ave a tough go of things, know that if not be jest ya who be suffering, but the Son suffering with ya at that very moment–and the Son knows a thing or two ‘bout how ter sail through squalls and heavy seas that test our starch.
